Just when you thought Cabo couldn’t get any better, it turns out we lead the pack of the best hotels in all of Mexico. This is no surprise to us, we work with these spectacular properties day in and day out and know the various amenities that couples can expect for their Los Cabos destination wedding.
Travel & Leisure Magazine recently announced their readers top 25 choices for the best hotels in Mexico. Los Cabos dominated with no less than 12. That’s right, TWELVE hotels. It should be mentioned that the Travel & Leisure Magazine’s survey closed on March 2, just before the pandemic. We can tell you that all properties are following local and international health & safety regulations and will most certainly be waiting for your future visit. So now, back to thinking about your glorious day.
If you have never been to Cabo, you may be wondering, how we are so different from other beach destinations in Mexico. Don’t they all have beautiful sandy beaches? Margaritas and Mariachi bands? Luxurious poolside decks? Of course, these and most Los Cabos resorts have all of this and much more.
Los Cabos is nestled at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Sea of Cortez to the east. Surprisingly, it has a tropical desert climate which is generally favored over most other, more humid areas in Mexico. The terrain varies from sandy beaches to tropical oases, orchards to mountain ranges and rugged cliffs, as made world-famous by the iconic Land’s End Arch, known as El Arco in Mexico.
The Sea Of Cortez is one of the most biologically diverse bodies of water on the planet. It is home to more than 900 species of fish, thousands of species of invertebrates, and a wide array of marine mammals like sea lions, dolphins and whales.
There are few things more awe-inspiring (besides your special day) than getting up close and personal with migrating humpback and grey whales, which pass through these waters each winter to give birth and rear their young in Cabo bays and lagoons. Of the 11 whale species found across the globe, eight make their way to the waters off Los Cabos. Visitors can take a whale-watching cruise on a local catamaran, but often they can be seen from your private terrace or beach.
If you and your guests would like a closer encounter with whales, consider swimming alongside Whale Sharks in nearby La Paz during the winter months. Whale Sharks are the world’s largest fish and unlike the whale, which is an air-breathing mammal. Although the species are technically carnivores, they are gentle giants whose favorite meal is plankton. They scoop up tiny plants, animals, and small fish with their giant, toothless, filtering mouths, much like a whale does. They swim and feed just below the surface of the water, making them easy to spot. They pay little mind to swimmers at their sides as they swim along.
HISTORY, CULTURE AND GLOBAL INFLUENCES
Los Cabos, like the rest of Mexico, has a colorful history and culture, rich customs, beautifully contrasting landscapes, inviting architecture, festivals steeped in tradition, deep love of family and celebration, and did we mention amazing FOOD?! Finally, the people of Mexico are creative, friendly and kind, and possess an unmatched openness.
Over time, Los Cabos has experienced an influx of people from and via Los Angeles with its gateway to the world. This has opened the door to celebrities, surfers, oceanographers, chefs, musicians, artists, architects, and many more people from around the globe. These influences have colored everything from music to architecture, food to hotel brands, and so much more. You can enjoy a heavenly Mexican experience with a full global fusion vibe on the side.
Love being pampered with manis, pedis, facials, and luxury spa or beachside massages? These Los Cabos properties have dozens of elegant, first-class spas, including the Spa at Esperanza which has been rated as the best in all of Latin America. Romantic couples treatments are an area specialty.
Cabo is home to the world’s richest fishing tournament, Bisbee’s Black and Blue, and big-game sport-fishing is one of the area’s most popular pursuits. Hundreds of hearty fishermen search the Sea of Cortez for Marlin, Tuna, and other deep-sea delights.
Los Cabos has been a premier golfing destination since the early 1990s, and some local courses have been ranked among the 100 best in the world, hosting PGA and other world-class events.
Art and fiesta lovers should take in the San Jose del Cabo Art Walk, held each Thursday evening of the high season. Many great galleries showcase work from the country’s best contemporary artists as well as traditional Mexican folk art. Music and food round out this festive and fun night.
Kiteboarding, Windsurfing, and Parasailing
Every winter, the El Norte winds blow down the Sea of Cortez, and the East Cape becomes a kiteboarding and windsurfing paradise. In January, and you can watch (or join) the world’s best in the annual Lord of the Wind competition. Parasailing is also popular in the Cabo Bay, and you can soar above the Arch alone or with a friend! If you or your wedding guests want to add some adventurous fun onto the wedding trip, these are only a few of the activities available.
Although great diving is done in many places in Los Cabos, Cabo Pulmo is a spot along the East Cape that makes a superb day trip. It is actually the oldest and largest living coral reef in North America, and the waters boast the highest concentration of fish anywhere in the entire Sea of Cortez.
For those with less time, snorkeling is available on pretty much any area beach and will usually yield spectacular sightings of hundreds of colorful fish species.
